Our history

The early 1895-1920's

The founder, Paul Sperry , was born into a family with a long seafaring tradition. Paul grew up listening to his great-grandfather's tales of his amazing adventures in the South Seas. These stories laid the foundation for young Paul's creative spirit, passion for sailing and desire for adventure.

The birth of Sperry 1935

The stormy sea, the slippery bridge and the struggle to find a secure footing almost cost Paul Sperry his life, who from that moment began his long and ambitious search for a solution. One day in 1935, after seeing his dog run smoothly on ice in Connecticut, Paul had an idea. Why not carve grooves, such as those under the dog's paws, in the bottom of the rubber sole? Thanks to that moment of inspiration, the first boat shoe in the world was born.

In the heart and soul of 1936-1940's sailors
